What is medical dry film?

Medical dry film is a specialized imaging medium that requires no chemical processing and produces medical images directly via thermographic or laser‑based imaging technologies. It is primarily used for recording images from X‑ray, CT, MRI, and other medical imaging modalities.

In the lower layer of the black‑and‑white emulsion, the photosensitive agent appears yellow when developed to black; the middle layer turns magenta, and the upper layer becomes cyan. This is precisely the black‑and‑white medical film we have been seeking after development. After enlargement or reduction, projecting the image onto photographic paper can yield a development effect opposite to that of a reversal film. At this point, the yellow in the lower layer of the medical film shifts to its complementary color—blue; the first layers at both ends become green; and the upper layer turns white. In this way, the resulting black‑and‑white photograph exhibits the same visual appearance as the original scene or as a bright reversal film. Such is the principle behind the formation of images recorded on black‑and‑white medical film.
